Before you can start using Arista Access Points shipped to you, you must register these access points on Launchpad Services. To register an access device means to enable it to communicate with the Launchpad service it associates with.
When you work with Launchpad, you are given rights on one or more Launchpad services. These Launchpad services are provided by servers managed by Arista Networks. The servers communicate with the Arista Access Points that are installed at various locations at your end. The Arista access points pass on the data to these servers which can then be viewed and managed using Wireless Manager.
Registration of an Arista Access Point is a two-step process. First you must import the access point into Launchpad. Then, you must assign the access point to a Launchpad service with which the access point is to communicate.
You can import one or more Arista Access Points into Launchpad. To import an access point, you must enter the serial number of the access point and registration key into Launchpad. This can be done in three different ways.
You can import a CSV file containing a list of serial numbers and registration keys of the access points to be imported.
The first column in the CSV file must be the serial number and the second column must be the registration key. Each row consisting of the serial number and registration key represents one Arista device. This is a convenient option when you want to import multiple devices into Launchpad. Launchpad provides a sample CSV file that illustrates the required format of a CSV file for an access point import.
You can manually enter each serial number-registration key combination using the keyboard when you want to import a small number of Arista Access Points into Launchpad. Alternatively, you can also use a bar code reader to read the bar codes for the serial number and the registration key of an Arista Access Point while importing them. The bar codes for the serial number and registration keys are provided on the access point as well as the access point packaging box.
Launchpad validates the serial number and registration key combination for each access point during the import process. This ensures that you do not make erroneous entries which could result in problems later.
Only valid entries are imported into Launchpad. The Status column informs you whether access point import has been done successfully or has failed. The reason for failure is also displayed.
When you import access points successfully, their status is set to 'unassigned' as they are yet to be assigned to a Launchpad service. You must assign the access points to a Launchpad service to complete the registration process.
Note: The import operation applies to the selected access points present on the current page only. If there are more than one pages, you must navigate to each page and select the access points to be imported, in order to be able to import them.
To import list of Arista devices from a CSV file, perform the following steps:
Valid Arista Access Points are imported successfully and are seen in the list with status as unassigned. Invalid entries are not imported and the reason for failure is displayed under Operation Status.
On successful import, The order of the imported devices' list visible on the page corresponds to the order in which they have been listed in the CSV file.
To import Arista device manually using keyboard, perform the following steps.
Valid Arista Access Points are imported successfully and are seen in the list with status as unassigned. Invalid entries are not imported and the reason for failure is displayed under Operation Status.
To import Arista device manually using bar code reader, perform the following steps.
Scan the bar codes for serial number and registration keys using a bar code reader. Repeat the procedure for every Arista device to import.
Valid Arista Access Points are imported successfully and are seen in the list with status as unassigned. Invalid entries are not imported and the reason for failure is displayed under Operation Status.
Only unassigned access points can be assigned to Launchpad services. You can assign the access points only to the services on which you have adequate rights. In case you want to assign the access point to a service that you do not have access to, you must first request for access to that service.
You can assign one or more Arista devices to a Launchpad service at a time.
To assign one or more Arista devices to a Launchpad service, perform the following steps.
You can unassign Arista devices if you want to suspend their use by the Launchpad service to which they have been assigned. You must unassign an Arista device before you can delete it from Launchpad. You can reassign an unassigned device to another service. Arista devices cannot communicate with a Launchpad service once they are unassigned from that service.
You can unassign one or more Arista access points at a time.
To unassign one or more Arista devices to a Launchpad service, perform the following steps:
Arista Access Points that have been assigned to a Launchpad service can be reassigned or moved to another Launchpad service. You can reassign the Access Points only to the Launchpad services on which you have adequate rights. If you want to assign the Arista Access Point to a Launchpad service that you do not have access to, you must first request for access to that service.
It is possible to reassign or move one or more Arista Access Points to a different Launchpad service at a time.
To move one or more Arista Access Points to another Launchpad service, perform the following steps:
You can delete an Arista Access Point if you want to stop using it. You must first unassign an Arista Access Points before you can delete it from Launchpad. Arista devices cannot communicate with a Launchpad service once they are unassigned from that service.
You can delete one or more Arista Access Points at a time. The deleted access points are seen as inactive in Wireless Manager. You can manually delete them from Wireless Manager, if required.
To delete one or more unassigned Arista Access Points, perform the following steps.
You can search for imported or registered Arista Access Points based on the serial number of the AP.
